The challenges of sustainable development are many – and urgent. The work of crafting lasting solutions, however, has only just begun.
Sustainability isn’t just about polar bears and pine trees. It’s about sustaining the human communities that comprise this world. The internal health, education, and sociopolitical harmony of any given community must be addressed alongside its external relationship with the natural world.
In this sense, we believe that the pro-environment/pro-development divide is obsolete, and that the future of sustainable development lies in the intersection of the two. To the extent that “environmentalism” has become a polarizing word, we believe that both its proponents and detractors are in need of a fundamental shift in thinking.
